Story and People
Villa le Prata was born in 1860 when the unification of Italy began.
Garibaldi leads the Thousand and the Count de 'Vecchi inaugurates the Villa, making it his own hunting lodge. It then became the country house of the Bishop of Montalcino until the early decades of the 1900s. In 1980, Massimo Losappio, chief surgeon of the Montalcino hospital, and his wife Marialuce, a philosophy teacher, bought it to make it their family residence.
Since the 80s the company has always been run by the women of the family, first by Marialuce and Anna Vittoria, then since 1996 by their daughter, Benedetta Losappio, until 2014 when the company was bought by Anna Vittoria and Bernardo Losappio and it is Anna Vittoria who has been personally involved in the company in recent years. A company peculiarity is given by the choice of oenologists, almost always female; Today the production makes use of the precious advice of Doctor Graziana Grassini, an internationally renowned winemaker and teacher. Welcoming friends and relatives with good wine has always been a family ritual in Montalcino. Today we dedicate this pleasure to those who want to allow themselves time in beauty and well-being.
Seeing the birth of the wines of Montalcino, for this residence, is a long-lived custom.

A story of love and gratitude
"By Grace received"
The winery was built in the late eighties by Gennaro Cocciardo, a craftsman from Ischia, who wanted to donate it as a sign of gratitude to Professor Losappio after the latter, taking care of him, had saved his life where other doctors had given him. ominous news. The building is located a few tens of meters from the villa, at the foot of the park. The artifact, with a typical Tuscan style, does not excel for architectural ideas, but was designed according to the needs of the time, when prof. Losappio made wine for himself and for his friends. On the façade, by Cocciardo himself, a terracotta Madonna was placed, also placed as a symbol of thanks and devotion for the grace received. In the spirit that gives impetus to every action of the owners of the company, this winery will not surprise you with its beauty but, to an attentive eye, the fundamental concept cannot escape:
“D’Amore si Vive”
